Thunderbird;

Guardian Spirit holding a Canoe;

City of Duncan founder, William Chalmers Duncan; Thunderbird, Killerwhale (dorsal fin added); and Woman who represents our Chief Makers, who is holding a Frog. These figures are based on stories of the Cowichan Valley tribes.

Five salmon adorn the back, again representing the five tribes, with tertiary lines that represent fish weirs. There are also water splashes that represent the mountains and the rivers within the area.

Eagle, Bear, Whale, Warrior, Frog

Eagle, Bear, Whale, Warrior, Frog

The Eagle on top represents the village of Tsakis; he was the first Ancestor to come here and take off his dress becoming human to build the first house. The Bear biting onto Whale is a theme that was done over and over again by Charlie James and this is my first attempt - I am really happy with the outcome. The Woman represents Winilagalis Warrior Spirit giving birth to a Frog who brought great wealth to our Chief, Tommy Hunt and the crest that comes from our great great grandmother, Anisalaga.
